New Release: Tamarelli GSM

If we at Tamarelli Vineyards were to personify our new GSM, we’d call this vintage The Three Amigas: Lively, Spicy & Earthy.

A trio of dynamic women who are intriguing on their own. Each is exquisite and potent. But when the three friends are together, you’re in for an extraordinary experience. Combined these friends - grenache, syrah, and mourvèdre - are passionate, bold and appealing to many tastes.

Carol and Wayne Tamarelli first fell in love with the GSM style while traveling in France. It’s a varietal wine inspired by the French Southern Rhone tradition of using more than one grape variety in a wine. We have grenache, the fun-loving friend. Grenache is a red grape requiring a long growing season, but its fruity flavors are worth the wait. Syrah, also known as shiraz, is the sassy friend. It’s a darker grape with a sweet and spicy combination and a hint of tannin. Mourvèdre is the down to earth friend. When alone, this grape produces a tannic wine.

Our GSM has perfected the trio. Grenache, syrah, and mourvèdre grape varietals thrive in our Uco Valley terroir.

Bottled in November 2020 after aging 18 months, it is a “wine that displays spicy subtle herb and earthy notes. It is a good minerality and a sour red fruit profile of raspberries, cherries and blueberries. It is delicate, refined and juicy on the palate, offering a lasting finish with lively acidity.”

We wanted to honor the traditional characteristics of a GSM - bright fruit, ripe fruit and herb aromas, and a grippy finish echoing the aroma - while producing a unique Tamarelli blend. Our blend of 33% grenache, 33% syrah, and 33%  mourvèdre ensures that the super-premium nature of each fruit stays intact. After all, good friends complement and never overpower.
